About Us

Robert and Beverly Smith are two people who love to travel. After taking many USA vacations, primarily to the National Parks, with their two daughters prior to 1980, the Smiths decided to venture off to the unknown countries in Europe in 1984. After a one month un-escorted trip they returned home and began to plan their return trip. Beverly had kept a log of their European travels and soon Robert published a book titled "Europe A La Carte" encouraging others to follow their lead.
Over the years many trips to Europe followed and it wasn't long before friends began inquiring if they could tag along. After all, they said, the Smiths were experts.
The numbers grew and it was soon apparent that the Smiths needed to get organized which led to the formation of their company, A La Carte Tours in 1991.
The company tour options have increased over the years and will reach a high in 2007 when four are offered to Italy, Germany, Scandinavia and Switzerland. Switzerland is the Smith's favorite destination and yearly trips to that location are planned.
Groups are purposely kept small (12 to 24) so as to insure personal service to each client.
Robert is a retired chemist from Conoco-Phillips while Beverly is a homemaker who loves gardening. Six grandchildren and their parents who live near their home in Friendswood, Texas keep things lively. Robert and Beverly are active in the Friendswood United Methodist Church and enjoy singing in the church choir. Square dancing is another favorite activity.
The Smiths are always considering new destinations for their clients and are open to suggestions.
Their biggest reward is seeing others enjoy new discoveries while traveling.
